Design of the Pelton turbine for the Ji Sha scheme

This paper presents the integration of recent developments in the design process of a new Pelton unit. The process was validated by model tests on a rig dedicated to vertical Pelton turbines. The use of computational flow dynamics at the design stage provided the opportunity for performance improvement and optimization. For Ji Sha, the hydraulic design was validated by model test results very close to the final design, as full homologous model tests were not mandatory.
