Development of an upgrade scheme for the Nurek plant, Tajikistan

This paper describes the studies carried out to develop a rehabilitation project for the Nurek hydropower plant, and ultimately to optimize the energy generation of this strategic asset in Tajikistan. The authors focus in particular on the opportunities identified for increasing the installed capacity within the available space, the possibility of changing the generator cooling system, and the challenges faced in modernizing the powerplant’s mechanical and electrical auxiliaries, including the installation of a modern SCADA system.
