Development of the Caçu/Barra dos Coqueiros power complex in Brazil

The Caçu/Barra dos Coqueiros complex has a total installed capacity of 155 MW, at two powerplants on the Claro river, in Brazil’s Central-West region. Initial studies for the development were carried out between 1991 and 1995, and the project was implemented between 2007 and 2010, when commercial operation began. This paper presents the main technical features of the scheme and the logistical and organizational challenges which had to be overcome during the simultaneous implementation of both projects in the complex.
