Extending service life through innovative engineering, testing and inspections

Evaluating the performance of aging infrastructure with current design codes does not always provide a complete or satisfactory answer. A combination of analysis tools such as numerical methods, field observations, materials testing, and physical models can provide engineers and owners with valuable information, which is needed to make informed decisions on the performance of older structures and the need for repairs. This paper presents a detailed study of structural components on the 76 year-old Buchanan multiple-arch dam in Texas, USA.
