Long-distance transmission for large hydro: The 2 GW Ethiopia-Kenya interconnector

The ± 500 kV high-voltage direct current (HVDC) link between Ethiopia and Kenya is now in the final stage of construction, in line with the objectives of the East African Power Pool. In addition to the large-scale exchange of energy between the two countries, the aim is to raise the quality of the power supply in the region and to reduce the cost of electricity.
