Main design and construction challenges of the Memve’ele hydro project, Cameroon

The 211 MW Memve'ele run-of-river hydro complex is now under commissioning. Memve’ele will be the largest capacity hydro plant to be commissioned in Cameroon in the last 30 years. This article highlights the main design and construction challenges of the project, and discusses the adaptations made to address geological conditions encountered on site. The article focuses mainly on the hydraulic structures.
