The successful commissioning and grid integration of the first two units at the Merowe multipurpose hydro scheme marks a new era for Sudan’s energy supply infrastructure. The 1400 MVA hydro plant is designed to form the central generating facility within a new 500 kV power transmission network. The simultaneous commissioning of the large-scale units and the initial energization of the backbone power grid required strategic time planning and the integration of complex technical and organisational interdependencies.
