Mozambique’s hydro options and transborder markets in southern Africa

The ongoing development of transborder transmission interconnections and electricity trading blocks in the Southern Africa Power Pool (SAPP) region is being driven by the need to share resources and reduce capital investments and operating costs for the supply of electricity, to support economic development in the region. This paper provides an outline of some of the information on new generation and transmission options developed for the study, as well as a summary of potential environmental and social issues.
