New MIVs enhance safety at Dinorwig

When the main inlet valves (MIVs) at Dinorwig in Wales reached the end of their service life, replacements were required to ensure continued safe operation of one of Europe’s largest pumped-storage powerplants. With a head of more than 500 m and a single pressure shaft, the challenges were immense.
