New technology for discharge measurement at small hydro stations

This paper discusses the use of Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers (ADCPs) for high accuracy measurement of discharge in open channels. The horizontal-beam and vertical-beam broadband ADCPs have been successfully tried in a number of small hydro stations. Details of these stations and the measuring sections of the open channels are given here. The results of discharge measurement with ADCPs have been compared with those of the Propeller-type Current Meter (PCM) method.
