Overcoming scheduling challenges at Eastmain 1 and Péribonka, Canada

Meeting, or beating, deadlines is critical to meeting cash-flow targets, for both new and refurbishment projects. Such monetary constraints, tied to the start of revenue generation, as well as to the logistics and cost of the job site itself, influence the amount of time given to civil engineering companies and both electrical and mechanical (E and M) equipment manufacturers to have plants ready for hand-over. As time goes by, these lead-times are gradually being compressed, often accompanied by contracts with bonuses and penalties for advance, on-time or late delivery. This paper illustrates the role of modern project management in the installation of E and M equipment at two new hydropower plants in Canada.
