Progress in the construction of CFRDs on deep alluvium

In cases where CFRDs are to be constructed on deep alluvial foundations, the concept of placing the plinth directly on the alluvium foundation, and then connecting the foundation diaphragm wall, plinth and concrete face slab, to form an integral seepage control system, is found to be a safe and economic solution. China has recently made much progress in the construction of high CFRDs on deep alluvial foundations. This paper discusses the experience gained, and some of the key design parameters.
