Re-engineering dam outlets: a cost-effective solution

The Chahnimeh reservoirs, in Sistan and Balouchestan province close to the eastern border of Iran, have an important role in water supply for both drinking and agricultural purposes in the region. During a project to convey water to local irrigation networks from the reservoirs, a cost-effective solution was adopted which involved using existing dam outlets to reduce construction costs. This paper discusses how changing the function of dam outlets can be beneficial in such cases.
