Refurbishment of CNR’s low head turbines at the Beaucaire scheme

The 210 MW Beaucaire hydropower project is located on the French side of the Rhône river and is the furthest downstream before the Mediterranean Sea. After more than 150 000 hours of operation, a modernization programme started in 2015 to replace the original blades. This article presents lessons learnt from the blade replacement of Beaucaire’s unit 3 and challanges experienced with cavitation.
