Rehabilitation of the Mount Coffee plant in Liberia: A story of regeneration and hope

Years of civil war caused almost total devastation of Liberia’s energy infrastructure, including the Mount Coffee hydro plant. Under President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, efforts have been underway since 2006 to restore the Monrovia grid and rebuild the Mount Coffee hydro plant. This article provides insights into the challenges faced by the delivery teams, particularly as regards technical and construction supervision aspects, during the rehabilitation of the project. The devastating 2014 Ebola outbreak put the delivery schedule under additional pressure in a country that is still trying to rebuild itself from two crippling civil wars.
