Research on design principles for very high concrete faced rockfill dams

In many recently completed very high CFRDs, incidents have been reported of slab crushing along the vertical joints of the face slabs, horizontal bending, and tension cracks developing in the upper portion of the face slabs. Some design principles are proposed in this paper to address these problems.
