A run-of river plant, with heavily exposed to sediment loads in the Andean terrain of South America is owned and operated by Statkraft. However, the highly erosive Andean environment and the highly intensive sediment transport dynamics results in operational difficulties predominantly witnessed during the wet months of January to April. A real-time sediment monitoring system, based on hybrid optical-acoustic strategies, has been installed to deliver high-quality, continuous data on sediment dynamics and optimize operations.
