Solar-hydro hybrid optimization studies to improve dry season generation in Liberia

Economic and technical modelling for Liberia’s plans for solar-hydro hybridization along the St Paul river, initially involving an upgrade at Mount Coffee, and then additional solar and hydro developments, are described here. A tailored modelling framework was developed, comprising three components: a revenue optimisation model to maximize value in both current and future market conditions; a power regulation model to simulate real-time solar balancing and minimize BESS requirements; and, a grid stability model to validate hybrid configurations under fault scenarios.
