The design and construction of trapezoidal CSG dams in Japan

Trapezoidal-cemented sand and gravel (CSG) dams were recently developed in Japan. They are particularly suited to sites with confined excavation areas and limited material preparation space. This paper describes the generic advantages of the trapezoidal CSG dam type and presents a case study of the design, construction and performance of the now completed 52 m-high Tobetsu dam.
