The development of new hydro schemes and upgrades in Portugal

To increase the country’s proportion of renewable energy, Portugal’s main utility EDP has developed a plan to build a number of new hydro plants. Some will be totally new schemes, and others upgrades of existing schemes with the addition of new power stations. These will make use of existing dams and avoiding production losses which have been caused, in some cases, by the limited size of the reservoirs.
