The importance of pumped-storage for Bulgaria

This paper gives a brief overview of the important role of pumped-storage for the Bulgarian grid system, and describes the pumped-storage stations currently in operation, with particular reference to Chaira, the largest of its type in eastern Europe. For some years it held the record of the highest head single-stage pumped turbine units.
