The role of hydro in long-term generation for Sarawak

Power demand in Sarawak is projected to increase rapidly in the near future, primarily because of the planned development of energy-intensive industries, as well as plans for export to Peninsular Malaysia. The State has abundant hydro potential which can be harnessed for power generation to meet these power demands in the long term. This paper gives an outlook on the power sector development in Sarawak, the available hydro resources and the conceptual power system development to meet long-term requirements. It also discusses the concomitant issues associated with meeting development objectives.
