The Siarzewo barrage: a key element in Poland’s investment plans

Poland is planning to invest in further development of the lower reach of the Vistula river, which has significant hydro potential; this will also provide scope for major inland navigation development, as well as a number of other side benefits. The first stage, currently considered a high priority, is the Siarzewo barrage, which will boost development of both the region and country in the fields of water management, energy technology and water transport; it is also expected to trigger tourism and recreation in the area. The scheme will have negligible environmental impact, will increase Poland’s renewable energy production, and will offer ancillary benefits for operation of the national grid.
