Water resources projects contribute to Pakistan’s economic growth

Heightening of the multipurpose Mangla dam in Pakistan has been one of the most important projects for Pakistan in recent years. The dam’s principal role is irrigation water supply, but there is also an associated hydro plant with a capacity of 1000 MW. Studies are now underway for an upgrade. This paper discusses the Mangla project, and gives a brief review of other important water infrastructure schemes which have played a significant role in Pakistan’s socio-economic development.
