Bids sought for retrofit of Ivoz-Ramet plant in Belgium

Luminus, a Belgium-based electricity producer and energy supplier, invites bids by 15 July for the retrofit of the 10 MW Ivoz-Ramet hydropower plant near the city of Liège in eastern Belgium. The run-of-river plant on the river Meuse was commissioned in 1954 and is equipped with three vertical Kaplan turbines of 3.3 MW each. The contracted work is composed of two lots: Lot 1 for the retrofit of the turbines and associated auxiliaries and Lot 2 for the refurbishment of the generators and associated auxiliaries. Candidates must submit an offer for at least Lot 1 though the contracting authority reserves the right to award contracts combining both lots. The retrofitting of the plant is planned to start in 2023, and is expected to take up to 36 months, according to the tender notice published on the EU’s procurement website TED on 14 June.

Lot 1 will require the retrofit of two out of three of the turbines and optionally the third one, the replacement of the oil governor and implementation of digital governor, the supply and installation of a turbine control and protection system including the local Human-Machine Interface (HMI) as well as a low voltage cabinet for the turbines auxiliaries and the supply of the associated mechanical and electrical auxiliaries, accessories, and instrumentation. Lot 2 covers the lifetime extension works of two out of three of the generators and optionally the third one, the retrofit of the excitation system as well as each of the generator’s control and protection system including local HMI and the supply of the associated mechanical and electrical auxiliaries, accessories and instrumentation.

Luminus, which is majority-owned by EDF, is the second largest electricity producer and supplier on the Belgian energy market. It owns and operates seven hydropower plants totalling 67 MW
