Electro-mechanical equipment sought for Hondrich plant in Bern, Switzerland

BKW, a leading Swiss power producer and supplier, invites bids by 21 November for the supply of electro-mechanical equipment for the Hondrich hydropower plant near the town of Spiez in the central canton of Bern.

Bids are sought for the engineering, manufacture, supply, installation and commissioning of a horizontal tube-S-Kaplan turbine and turbine governor, a generator, cooling water system (including heat exchanger, pumps and cooler), turbine shut-off valve with extension piece and sliding flange, inlet pipe (fixed point pipe) and wastewater system, according to a tender notice published on the EU’s procurement website TED on 30 September.

In addition, the delivery includes the instruction and training of the plant’s local operators.

The project is to be developed by WKW Hondrich, a consortium in which BKW holds 51 per cent and Energie Thun 49 per cent, under a concession awarded by the Government Council of the Canton of Bern in March 2019. The run-of-river plant will have an installed capacity of 7.4 MW and is expected to generate average output of around 35 GWh/year, corresponding to the annual supply needs of around 7700 households.
