Hidroelectrica tenders modernization of Râul Mare Retezat

Hidroelectrica, Romania’s state-controlled hydropower producer seeks bids by 24 May for the refurbishment of the 335 MW Râul Mare Retezat storage plant on the Râul Mare, a left tributary of the river Strei, in the southeastern county of Hunedoara. Commissioned in 1986, the high head plant is equipped with two vertical Francis units, which generate annual output of 605 GWh.

The refurbishment works mainly involve the design, testing, manufacture, installation, trial operation and commissioning of two new hydraulic turbines and generators and hydromechanical equipment (butterfly valves and spherical valves); as well as modernization of the high voltage transformer substations, and installation and commissioning of the automation and SCADA system.

The contracted works are expected to be completed over a maximum of 48 months following contract signing and have an estimated total value, excluding VAT, of €76.98 million, according to a tender notice published on the EU’s public procurement website on 16 April.
